Program Will Support Faculty in Development of
Customized Affordable Digital Courseware, Resulting in Increased
Student Savings and Engagement at Campuses Nationwide
Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. (NYSE:BNED), a leading
provider of educational products and services solutions for higher
education and K-12, today announced a request for proposals for a
newly implemented LoudCloud Courseware™ faculty mini-grant program.
The program will help faculty customize and implement affordable,
digital courseware in four key disciplines associated with higher
cost course materials – Business, Criminal Justice, Biology and
College Success – ensuring students have greater access to the
materials they need.
Access to high quality, affordable course materials remains a
key barrier to student engagement. Cost is the number one reason
students choose not to purchase textbooks, yet 7 out of 10 students
agree that course materials are important to succeed1. Without the
assigned learning materials, students risk falling behind in
class.
Digital courseware removes the cost barrier, setting students on
a path to success by helping to ensure they are prepared for the
first day of class with the correct course materials. The
mini-grant program will provide selected faculty members with the
opportunity to customize an existing LoudCloud Courseware course
for use in the Spring 2019 semester. Grant recipients will receive
consultations and training from LoudCloud as they customize the
course template to meet their objectives and teaching philosophy. A
limited number of grants will be awarded, each worth up to $2,500,
to selected faculty members employed by higher education
institutions in the United States. Faculty chosen for the
mini-grants will also receive an additional $1,000 to be awarded to
their department to support future affordability initiatives.
Barnes & Noble Education’s LoudCloud Courseware blends open
educational resources (“OER”) and originally authored content plus
a full range of ancillary materials such as auto-graded practice
problems, summative exams, lecture slides and homework activities.
Powered with predictive analytics, the platform also provides
integrated insights, enabling both students and their faculty to
monitor performance and improve learning outcomes. As part of the
mini-grant program requirements, faculty will use the analytics
feature to compile an end-of-term report detailing the Courseware’s
effect on student engagement in their class.

pedagogy.
