HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.LN) said Monday that it has appointed its current UK and European chief executive Antonio Simoes as its next CEO of global private banking.

HSBC, Europe's largest lender by total assets, said Mr. Simoes will take on the role from Jan. 1, 2019, replacing Peter Boyles who is retiring from the bank.

James Emmett will succeed Mr. Simoes as chief executive of Europe, and the U.K.'s HSBC Bank PLC. Mr. Emmett has previously served as chief operating officer of the U.K. business, and as global head of trade-and-receivables finance.
