Sibanye Gold Ltd. (SGL.JO) said Friday that it intends to continue the suspension of its Masakhane mine in South Africa for a further week while it carries out an investigation into a seismic event that killed seven miners.

Sibanye said production from the rest of the mines which make up the Driefontein operation will continue as normal. The Masakhane mine produces approximately 20% of Driefontein's 50 kilograms of gold a day production, and Sibanye said approximately 230kg of gold production has been lost since the seismic incident last Thursday.

The company said a total of 13 employees were trapped by loose rocks during the event, and six employees were rescued. One of those employees has been discharged from hospital, while the others remain in "stable condition and are making good progress", according to Sibanye.
