          TYCO NAMES JOHN E. EVARD, JR. AS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, TAX

PEMBROKE, Bermuda - December 16, 2002 - Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE:TYC, BSX:
TYC, LSE: TYI) today announced the appointment of John E. Evard, Jr. as Senior
Vice President, Tax.  He comes to Tyco from United Technologies (UTC) where he
served as Vice President, Tax.

Mr. Evard will be responsible for all of Tyco's tax activities worldwide.   He
will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer David J.
FitzPatrick.

Mr. FitzPatrick said: "Given Tyco's size and the diversity of its business
operations, it is essential that we have an extraordinarily professional,
world-class team overseeing the complex financial issues facing the Company.
John Evard is an important addition to the finance group we are putting in
place.  I worked with him closely at UTC, where I came to respect his ability,
commitment and personal integrity.  Given his track record, I know that he will
make enormous contributions at Tyco."

Mr. Evard said:  "Under the leadership of Ed Breen, Dave FitzPatrick and the
rest of the management team, Tyco is becoming one of the most interesting and

Scott Stevenson will remain Senior Vice President, Tax and will also report to
Mr. FitzPatrick.  Mr. FitzPatrick added:  "Scott has tremendous knowledge and
skills with respect to Tyco's tax matters and is a valuable member of the Tyco
team."

Mr. Stevenson said: "I welcome John to Tyco and look forward to working with him
as he assumes leadership of an outstanding tax department."

Mr. Evard is a tax attorney.  At UTC, he led a very talented global function and
was instrumental in building the tax team across the company.   Prior to joining
United Technologies, Mr. Evard held a number of positions at CNH Global N.V. and
its predecessor company, Case Corp., including Senior Vice President, Corporate
Development, and General Tax Counsel.  Earlier, he held tax counsel positions at
Atlantic Richfield Company and was in the private practice of law.

Mr. Evard has a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a J.D.
from the University of Arizona and a L.L.M. in Taxation from the New York
University School of Law.  He is a member of the California Bar Association, the
American Bar Association and the Tax Executives Institute and serves as a member
of the Board of Directors for the Tax Council.
