SouthernEra Announces Appointment of Mine General Manager

    at the Messina Platinum Mine

    TORONTO, Dec. 4 /CNW/ - SouthernEra Resources Limited today announced the

appointment of Mr. Glenn Baldwin to the position of Mine General Manager at

the Messina Platinum Mine with effect from January 1, 2004. Mr. Baldwin

replaces Mr. Stan Westcott, who has retired from the Company.

    A mining engineering graduate of the University of Southern Australia,

Mr. Baldwin began his career with the Mount Isa Mine in Australia. After four

years in various positions, Glenn Baldwin achieved the position of Senior

Planning Engineer at Mount Isa, following which he joined Normandy as the

Manager Underground Mining at the Wiluna Gold Mine.

    In 2000 Mr. Baldwin was appointed to the position of Senior Mining

Engineer within the technical division of the Anglo American Corporation in

Johannesburg. In 2002 he was appointed Project Manager within Anglo Platinum

and in 2003 was appointed to the position of Mine Manager at Anglo Platinum's

Boschfontein East Mine in South Africa.

    Commenting on Mr. Baldwin's appointment, SouthernEra President and CEO

Africa's mining industries has equipped him well for this senior appointment

with SouthernEra. The combination of his platinum mining experience and steep

    SouthernEra also announced the departure of Mr. John Barker, formerly

Vice President Corporate Development, from the Company. Mr. Barker will not be

replaced. Mr. Alasdair MacPhee, SouthernEra's Senior Vice President and Chief

Development Officer will assume full corporate development responsibilities.
