Sinclair maintains investment in peat free with launch of growing trials
William Sinclair Horticulture Limited, one of the UK's leading suppliers of
growing media, announces its on-going commitment to the development of peat
alternatives with the launch of its peat free growing programmes that are open
to ornamental, fruit and edible crop growers.
The one year programmes will be supported by William Sinclair's Professional
team of specialist soil scientists, growing media and plant nutrition experts
who will work with the growers by providing technical advice on the use of the
peat free material.
Growing media that will be used include 'superfyba'. Produced by William
Sinclair's specialist topsoil subsidiary Freeland Horticulture, superfyba is
being launched for the Professional sector. Freeland has spent several millions
of pounds developing a new technology that resolves all the problems of using
green compost for peat replacement.
Other growing media that growers will be provided with include Fytocell, a
hydroponic soil-less growing media, and various grades of coir (RHP approved,
RHP equivalent and Sinclair's own).
Growers will be able to subscribe to the free programmes at the forthcoming Four
Oaks trade show on 7-8 September 2010 where William Sinclair will be
demonstrating all of the growing media. Alternatively growers can contact
William Sinclair's head office in Lincoln to register.
Commenting on the launch of the peat free trials, John Tugman, Managing Director
- Professional said;
"Gaining the confidence of professional growers in the UK to use peat
alternatives is a significant challenge to suppliers. The use of a poor
performing growing media can have a catastrophic effect on margins and the
future of our customers' businesses.
"With the launch of the peat free growing trials William Sinclair is again
demonstrating its willingness to work in partnership with professional growers
to help them successfully grow their businesses while adopting products that not
only perform as well as peat, but better than peat.
"Sinclair has over 20 years experience of investing in the development of
peat-free composts and building growers' trust. This investment is being
maintained as we continue to focus on increasing our production of peat
alternatives. Sinclair would like to accelerate the rate of use of peat
alternatives and is demanding better quality standards for green composts and
other peat free products."
