LONDON, April 28, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Metering
Services announced today its largest win since 2003 with a new
meter reading data collection contract with British Gas. This
contract, worth in excess of GBP100
million over the five year term cements Siemens position as
the UK's leading independent supplier of metering services.
The original meter reading contract was awarded to Siemens in
2003 and covered two out of eight of British Gas's geographical
areas serving approximately 2.5 million domestic and business
customers in London, the South
East, and the East of England.
Building on Siemens' strong relationship with British Gas, the new
contract effective from the 1st April
2010 doubles the meter reading and data collection footprint
to approximately 5 million customers and provides services for 50%
of British Gas's national coverage with the addition of services
for Wales, the South West and the
Midlands.
Kevin Tutton, Director, UK
Metering Services, commenting on the new contract said: "This award
is a direct result of the efforts of our business operation and
service delivery teams in providing high quality efficient
services, something which has been recognised by British Gas with
the award of this new contract. We are delighted to be selected as
a service delivery partner of choice."
"We collect more meter readings per customer each year than any
other energy supplier, as we know accurate billing is a key driver
of customer satisfaction. The contract with Siemens is a key
component in achieving this objective" said Colin McCann, director of metering at British
Gas.
Siemens will operate the contract from its Metering Services
headquarters in Nottingham. The
operations centre employs 1,200 staff, who provide nationwide
support in data processing, data management and field services
within the utilities market for gas, electric, water and commercial
and industrial customers.
