FORTH PORTS GET GREEN LIGHT FOR
                           WESTERN HARBOUR DEVELOPMENT

A £600m plan to transform the disused Western Harbour area into an exciting
residential and business quarter, has been given the go ahead by Edinburgh City
Planning Committee.

Councillors have approved the Forth Ports PLC application to provide 3,000
apartments, over 500,000 square feet of office space, a major cultural
building, a park larger than Princes Street Gardens, 60,000 square feet of
retail use and a quayside half a mile long. The apartments will have
spectacular views across the Forth.

Charles Hammond, Chief Executive of Forth Ports PLC, said: "The project
provides much needed housing land for the city, only ten minutes from Princes
Street. We are creating a village square and central park, giving it a heart
not just for the new residents, but the existing community. We did not rush
this development in any way, but took our time to consult the local community,
environmentalists and conservationists as well as the Planners. We are
delighted that the Planning Committee is mindful to grant approval and this
will significantly enhance the property opportunities within the Group. The
development is equivalent to the creation of a small Scottish town with a fully
integrated transport system."

The scheme will be created partly on 40 acres of land, which has already been
reclaimed from the harbour and a further 40 acres being reclaimed. The
development has taken nearly three years to get to the final planning stage.

The work is an important part of the £1 billion Waterfront Edinburgh
regeneration of Granton including Forth Ports' own plans for a further similar
sized development at Granton Harbour, both of which are in the planning
application process.

Land has been reserved to allow construction of a future Light Rail System that
will link the complete waterfront development with Waverley and Haymarket
Stations.

End.
