Clarification of Notified Substantial Interests in Shares

Schroder Investment Management Limited ("Schroder") has today, 4 January 2000,
confirmed that, as a result of transactions that took place in 1995 and 1997,
their interests in the Ordinary 10p Shares of Eleco plc (the "Company")
currently stand at 3,770,000 shares, representing 9.76% of the Company's issued
Ordinary Share capital.  The most recent previous notification received from
Schroder pursuant to Section 198 of the Companies Act 1985 was dated 24 May 1995
and disclosed a total interest of 13.90%.

The Company understands that there have not been any further changes in
Schroder's percentage holding in the Company's shares since 1997.  This
announcement is therefore made for clarification purposes only.
