June 21 2011 - 3:46AM
Dow Jones News
Toray Industries Inc. (3402.TO) said Tuesday it has signed a
long-term pact to supply carbon fiber for use in aircraft parts to
Netherlands-based TenCate Advanced Composites.
Japan's largest synthetic fiber maker by sales said it will
provide TenCate with carbon fiber for five years starting later
this year. The monetary value of the contract has not been
disclosed.
TenCate will process Toray's carbon fiber into thermoplastic
prepreg--flexible sheets of carbon fiber that are used in the wings
and frames of aircraft.
Carbon fiber is a key material for fuel-efficient jetliners
designed to fly long-haul routes.
