GoSolarUSA (PinkSheets:GSLO) President and CEO Tyson Rohde announced today that the company has filed a trademark application for “ApplePeel 520,” the new name of GSLO’s groundbreaking iPod smartphone accessory.

The ApplePeel 520 is a sleeve that slips over Apple’s iPod Touch media player and adds the ability to make voice calls and send text messages, mimicking the functionality of the electronics giant’s more expensive iPhone. The device interfaces electronically with the Touch, turning the powerful media player into a cutting-edge smartphone. Since word of its revolutionary functionality reached the press months ago, the gadget has been variously referred to as the Peel, the Peel 520, and the Apple Peel 520.

GoSolarUSA filed the trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday. Rohde said on Wednesday that the trademark was intended to end the confusion and standardize the spelling and usage of the ApplePeel 520’s name.

“This trademark is proof that the ApplePeel 520 is proprietary, third-party technology,” Rohde said. “Our device was not developed by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), and neither is it owned by them. It’s our hope that this filing will lay to rest any lingering questions as to who created this product and what to call it.”

Rohde returned last week from a trip to China to meet with Yosion, the Chinese developer of the ApplePeel 520. As a result of those negotiations, GoSolarUSA acquired the exclusive North American distribution rights for the ApplePeel and signed a worldwide profit-sharing agreement with Yosion.

Rohde brought back 100 demonstration models of the ApplePeel 520 from China that have been earmarked for distribution to retail buyers and the media. Representatives from Micro Center and other national electronics retailers have already contacted Rohde to inquire about the device’s availability.

“Currently, all of our efforts are being put toward finalizing the ApplePeel 520’s packaging and branding details to suit the needs of American retailers and consumers,” Rohde said. “It’s our goal to release this product to retailers nationwide in time for Christmas.”

GoSolarUSA is dedicated to aggressively acquiring, developing and marketing promising and potentially profitable technology. The Apple Peel 520 is a product of Yosion Technologies based in Shenzhen, China. The iPod Touch and the iPhone are products of Apple Inc., which competes in the global smartphone market against Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android devices and the Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry line.
