Volvo Buses has won an order for 64 buses from Goteborgs Sparvagar

Volvo Buses has won an order for 64 buses from Goteborgs Sparvagar
(Gothenburg Tramway Ltd). Environmental aspects have been extremely
important, natural gas buses and exhaust emission control filters on
diesel buses will improve the environment in Gothenburg. The buses will
be delivered in May 2004.

Within the last couple of days, Volvo Buses and Goteborgs Sparvagar have
signed a contract for 64 buses, which will mainly be in service in
eastern Gothenburg and Hisingen. With this order, Volvo Buses continues
to be the main supplier for Goteborgs Sparvagar.
The bus order is divided between two types of bus, 30 Volvo B10LA CNG
(natural gas) and 34 Volvo B12BLE Bogie. The B10LA is being built in
Boras and bodybuilt at the Volvo Buses factory in Saffle, and the B12BLE
is being built at the Volvo Buses factory in Poland.

The buses will be delivered in May 2004 in readiness for the start of
the bus services, which Goteborgs Sparvagar takes over in June 2004 on
behalf of Vasttrafik (Public Transport Authority of West Sweden).
By the middle of 2006, the diesel buses will cope with 2 gr NOx using
SCRT (exhaust emission control filter), which is a requirement from
Vasttrafik.

"It is gratifying to see that Volvo Buses' commitment on the
environmental side is resulting in increased volumes, above all in terms
of natural gas buses", says Stefan Guttman, CEO of Volvo Bussar Sverige
AB (Volvo Buses Sweden).
