HOUSTON, April 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today announced that it has contributed an additional $50 million in cash to its defined benefit pension plans, bringing its total year-to-date contribution to its defined benefit pension plans to $100 million. "We are focused on honoring our pension commitments and securing the retirement of our co-workers," said Chairman and CEO Larry Kellner. Continental currently expects to contribute approximately $150 million to its defined benefit pension plans in 2009. Since the beginning of 2002, Continental has contributed nearly $1.7 billion to its defined benefit pension plans.
