Loews' Profit Rises, Expenses Climb Quicker Than Revenue

Loews Corp.'s (L) profit rose in the second quarter, boosted by
noncontrolling interests.
Profit was $249 million, up 8.3% from the comparable quarter a
year prior. Earnings were 82 cents a share, up from 72 cents a
share.
Revenue was $3.62 billion, up 0.9%. Expenses rose 2%.
The company's profit attributable to noncontrolling interests
was $24 million, compared with an $18 million loss for the
comparable quarter a year earlier.
