Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), a leading competitive
electricity supplier, today announced a long-term environmental
sustainability effort with the Chicago White Sox organization that
begins by powering the Sox game on Saturday, April 30, against the
Baltimore Orioles with 100 percent renewable energy
certificates.
The focus on environmental stewardship begins several hours
before the game when the White Sox Volunteer Corps, Constellation
Energy and several White Sox players will plant four trees and
place mulch on the playground at Armour Square Park, across the
street from the ballpark.
“We are always looking to provide our loyal fans with valuable
offerings, services and experiences, and we know Constellation
Energy will help us achieve that for years to come,” said Brooks
Boyer, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Chicago
White Sox.
“We are excited to begin this long-term effort with the Chicago
White Sox to promote clean energy and enhance the environment,”
said Bruce Stewart, chief marketing officer, Retail Energy, for
Constellation Energy. “This new effort signifies our commitment to
provide green electricity choice to more than 2 million Chicagoland
residents and begins a great collaboration with the White Sox
organization.”
Constellation Energy will power the first “green game” at U.S.
Cellular Field by purchasing renewable energy certificates (RECs)
to cover the electricity use on game day. Constellation Energy also
is offering a new green electricity plan to Chicagoland residents
that guarantees at least 10 percent green energy when customers
choose Constellation as their electricity supplier.
The White Sox “green game” is powered by Green-e certified RECs
which represent the environmental benefits of electricity generated
by wind, solar or other renewable power facilities. More than 1,500
White Sox employees will wear special green T-shirts commemorating
the game and fireworks afterward; Constellation sponsorship
activities will continue at 11 more White Sox games this
season.
