Constellation Energy Seeking Applications for EcoStar Grant Program

Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG) today announced that it is taking applications for its annual EcoStar Grant program, which provides qualifying nonprofit organizations with funds to implement projects that support Constellation Energy’s continuing commitment to environmental stewardship. Grant awards will be up to $5,000, with funds provided by the Constellation Energy Foundation.

This marks the second year for the EcoStar Grant program, which targets community-based projects that fit into one or more of five stewardship categories: pollution prevention, education and outreach, energy efficiency, conservation and community activism. The application deadline is March 10 and grant awards will be announced on or before Earth Day, April 22.

“We look forward to building on the success of the EcoStar Grant program, which has provided funding for a wide range of environmental stewardship projects that demonstrate our commitment to the organizations making a difference in our communities,” said Paul J. Allen, chief environmental officer and senior vice president, Constellation Energy. “These grassroots projects are a natural complement to our continuing efforts to benefit the environment by investing in solar, wind and other clean energy sources, while also providing homes and businesses with the products and services to more efficiently manage their energy use.”

In 2009, Constellation Energy set a goal to give 1 percent or more of its annual operating income to support charitable organizations and causes. The EcoStar Grant program is one of a range of initiatives, donations and grants targeting the company’s key areas of focus for community outreach – energy, education, economic growth, the environment and employee involvement. Last year, Constellation Energy awarded 62 EcoStar Grants totaling $300,000.

To qualify for an EcoStar Grant, a project should be located in an area where Constellation Energy does business. Applicants must have a board of directors and be designated a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Applications should include a project budget that details how the grant award will be spent, with no more than 20 percent allocated to administrative and office expenses.
