Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced that Charles A. Berardesco, senior vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary and chief compliance officer of Constellation Energy, has received a Leadership in Law Award by the Maryland Daily Record.

The Leadership in Law Award was created in 2000 to recognize individuals whose leadership, both in the legal profession and in the community, has made a positive impact in the state of Maryland. Berardesco was chosen to receive the award due to his efforts in stabilizing and strengthening Constellation Energy, including an agreement with EDF Group (EDF) to sell 49.99 percent of Constellation Energy’s nuclear fleet.

As general counsel for Constellation Energy, Berardesco has primary responsibility for the company's legal strategies and policies, including corporate governance, legal compliance and ethics, corporate finance activities, mergers and acquisitions, and litigation.

Berardesco also serves as the chairman of Constellation Energy's Diversity Council, a cross functional team of leaders from across the enterprise that work on incorporating diversity and inclusion into the workplace.

Prior to joining Constellation Energy, Berardesco had practiced law for nearly 20 years, both in-house and as external counsel. He is active in a number of charitable organizations, including having served as chairman of the board of the Woodbourne Center, president of the Presbyterian Home of Maryland, chair of the Church Council of Foundry United Methodist Church and a member of the board of directors of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society and the Hippodrome Foundation. He is a member of the Business Council of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.

Berardesco was one of 24 individuals to receive the award. The 2010 Leadership in Law awards will be celebrated at a luncheon at the BWI Hilton on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010.
