Harris Corporation's NetBoss(R) Network Management System Selected By Baltimore Gas and Electric Company RESEARCH TRIANGLE, N.C., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG), has selected Harris Corporation's (NYSE:HRS) NetBoss(R) network management system to support the modernization and expansion of its utility network in Maryland. BGE serves more than one million business and residential electric customers and more than 600,000 gas customers in a 2,300-square-mile area encompassing Baltimore City and all or part of 10 Central Maryland counties. "We selected Harris based on the depth and capabilities of the NetBoss solution and the reliability and responsiveness of their sales team," said James P. Garrett, IT principal analyst, BGE Wide Area Network Services. "In addition, we were impressed with the company's longevity and its history of technological innovation. Our evaluation process was very rigorous, and we believe that NetBoss is the robust solution we need to address our network management challenges." Harris NetBoss is an integrated network management application that provides users the ability to administer and manage multivendor, multiprotocol communications networks from a single console. This enables service providers to quickly detect, isolate and rectify service issues affecting network conditions. "We are very pleased that BGE has selected Harris to provide a total, turnkey solution for its state-wide network," said John Koenig, vice president of Harris' NetBoss business unit. "NetBoss will enable BGE to have a complete view of its networks from one location, allowing them to proactively address service issues -- a critical issue in providing vital electric and gas services." In addition to the core NetBoss system, BGE purchased the Manage.IT(TM) module for real-time fault management of BGE's distributed network; the Build.IT(TM) tool, an optional Harris Smart Agent builder that will enable BGE to create and reconfigure interfaces independently; the NetBoss Graphics Package, which allows users to easily manage the network graphically and textually; and NetBoss Reporter, a multi-output, Web-based system for sophisticated reporting, analysis and information delivery. Implementation of the BGE project is expected to take approximately three to four months.
