Boeing Co. (BA) said Thursday that J. Michael Luttig, counselor and senior adviser to the company's board, will retire at the end of this year.

Mr. Luttig served as Boeing's general counsel from 2006 until May of 2019, when he assumed his current duties, the company said. He has "been managing legal matters associated with the Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accidents, and advising the board on strategic matters," Boeing said.

Before joining Boeing, Mr. Luttig served 15 years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
