BlackRock Inc. on Friday said that it supports the trading halt of its iShares MSCI Russia exchange-traded fund by NYSE Arca, the U.S. exchange for the listing and trading of ETFs.

The exchange moved to stop trading of the ETF, listed under the ticker symbol ERUS, on Friday at 4 a.m. ET.

The asset-management giant said several factors, including the fund's concentrated exposure to Russian equities, the closure of the Russian stock market and MSCI's move to remove Russian securities from its emerging-markets indexes, are reasons why BlackRock backs NYSE Arca's decision.

BlackRock is "committed to protecting the best interests of its ERUS shareholders," it said.
