SRS Labs, officially recognized as one of America’s Greatest Brands and the industry leader in surround sound, audio and voice technologies, and Tensilica®, Inc., today announced that Tensilica is the first intellectual property (IP) core supplier to commercially support SRS StudioSound HD™, the latest and most advanced all-in-one audio solution available for flat panel televisions and home theater sound bar manufacturers. Availability of SRS StudioSound HD on Tensilica’s HiFi audio DSP further extends Tensilica’s lead as the most popular audio IP core supplier for home entertainment systems. Thus implementation enables delivery of the most advanced audio enhancement solutions to DTV SOC (system-on-chip) makers worldwide.

“SRS StudioSound HD allows companies like Tensilica to offer a full complement of audio technologies for a much better sound experience to HDTV customers worldwide,” stated Larry Przywara, Tensilica’s director of mobile multimedia. “We are already experiencing a broad adoption of SRS’ advanced audio technologies across our customer base.”

SRS StudioSound HD was designed to be a comprehensive audio solution intended to solve every common consumer TV audio complaints including inconsistent volume levels, unintelligible vocals, and poor, dimension-less sound. SRS StudioSound HD automatically detects and levels abrupt volume fluctuations that normally occur when programming switches to commercial break or while changing channels. It also intelligently separates vocals from all other content and dynamically adjusts the dialog level to ensure that it’s always clearly understood. Additionally, StudioSound HD delivers an immersive front rendered surround sound experience using built-in TV speakers, significantly enhancing depth and dimension and further improves accuracy of surround rendering from SRS 5.1 or other surround encoded 2-channel content being streamed directly from the web.

“We are excited to extend our relationship with Tensilica to bring our home entertainment audio solutions to their HiFi audio IP core,” said Joanna Skrdlant, Senior Director, Global Platform Partner Program at SRS Labs. “The HiFi cores are optimally designed to handle advanced audio enhancement processing solutions such as SRS TruVolume, SRS TruSurround HD and now, SRS StudioSound HD. Tensilica is well respected within the DSP space as a key audio core supplier and we welcome the opportunity to work together to deliver an even greater product with the inclusion of our flagship StudioSound HD all-in-one solution.”

Tensilica’s HiFi Audio DSP is extremely efficient, uses very little power, is supported by over 80 audio/voice codecs and audio-enhancement software packages, and has been designed into popular consumer products ranging from smart phones to digital TVs, home entertainment receivers, and Blu-ray Disc players.

Both SRS and Tensilica will have meeting suites at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6-10th. For more information about SRS StudioSound HD or Tensilica’s HiFi audio DSP core, or to set up a meeting at CES, contact Joannas@srslabs.com or paula@tensilica.com, respectively.
