Airbus SE's Airbus Defence and Space division said Wednesday
that it has signed an initial framework contract with Spain for the
Future Combat Air System, a European defense project.
The European plane maker's division said the contract is related
to the demonstrator phase of the Future Combat Air System,
effectively onboarding Spain as the third nation on the
program.
The German and French governments earlier this year awarded
Airbus and Dassault Aviation SA the initial framework contract
launching the demonstrator phase for the Future Combat Air System,
along with partners MTU Aero Engines AG, Safran SA, Thales SA, and
MBDA.
The latest contract encompasses initial work to develop the
program demonstrators and technologies, with flight tests expected
to start in the second half of 2026, Airbus Defence and Space
said.
