Moms Plan, Dads Procrastinate * New Circuit City National Survey
Confirms Different Gift-Buying Habits RICHMOND, Va., April 4
/PRNewswire/ -- For nearly 100 years, American families have set
aside a day each May to honor their mothers. And in 1924, Americans
began celebrating Father's Day in June. These two days have become
major occasions for gift giving. Now, a new survey from electronics
retailer Circuit City sheds light on how men and women approach the
job of picking out Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts. Men tend to
put off shopping for Mother's Day: * A sizable number (12%) admit
they don't shop for a gift until the day before Mother's Day; *
More than half (53%) say they shop for Mother's Day within a week
of the occasion; * Only about a quarter of dads (27%) say they shop
for Mother's Day gifts a week or more before Mother's Day. By
contrast, moms appear to put much more time and thought into
shopping for dad: * Almost twice as many moms compared to dads (44%
vs. 27%) say they shop for gifts more than a week before Father's
Day; * About a third of moms (34%) say they shop for dad in the
week leading up to Father's Day; * Only four percent admit they
wait until the day before Father's Day to shop for gifts. The "Just
what I needed for Mother's Day*" survey also reveals that tech
gifts are as popular with mom as traditional gifts, such as flowers
and candy. Asked which tech gift they would prefer, more than 46
percent of moms picked a digital camera. Other top tech gift
choices included a DVD or CD (32%), a new TV (14%) and satellite
radio (eight percent). Circuit City carries the latest digital
cameras, along with photo printers, photo paper and ink -- all the
tools necessary to make digital imaging a convenient, easy way to
take and share family photos. Help mom accessorize with fashionable
bags for her electronics, including her digital camera. Most moms
(62%) told the Circuit City survey they'd prefer to carry their
electronics in colorful, fashionable bags instead of traditional
black bags. Circuit City is the exclusive retail outlet for Anika,
an entire line of fashionable bags for carrying laptops, digital
cameras, camcorders, and CDs. Help for last-minute Mother's Day
shoppers: On Saturday, May 7, 2005, Circuit City Superstores
nationwide will offer special demonstrations of the Kodak EasyShare
digital photography and printing system from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The first 100 customers who participate in the demonstration can
pose for a free, suitable-for-framing digital photograph, just in
time to give to mom! * The "Just what I needed for Mother's Day"
survey was commissioned by Circuit City Stores, Inc. and was
conducted on the Internet by Decision Analyst of Arlington, Texas.
More than 1,300 moms and more than 1,100 dads responded. The
survey's margin of error is +/- 2%. About Circuit City Stores, Inc.
