("CAMEC" or "the Company")
CAMEC GRANTED 8250 SQ KM EXPLORATION PERMITS AT MOBA AND MITWABA IN THE KATANGA
REGION OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO
Central African Mining & Exploration Company Plc, the AIM listed fully
integrated exploration, mining, trading and investment company, has been granted
'Permit de Recherches' (exploration permits) in the Moba and Mitwaba regions of
the Katanga Province in the south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
(D.R.C.).
Issued by the DRC Mining Ministry and in accordance with the newly introduced
mining code, the 'Permits de Recherches' allow for the exploration of all
minerals and resources within the designated areas.
The Moba Exploration Permits cover nine contiguous areas constituting
approximately 3250 sq km at Moba in the Tanganyika district of Katanga.
Bordering Lake Tanganyika, the property is situated to the North of the
Dikulushi area, where Australian mining company Anvil has reported grades of 8%
copper and 200gm/tonne of silver. At Moba CAMEC will initially concentrate its
exploration activities on copper, gold and silver.
The 5000 sq km Mitwaba Exploration Permits cover 16 contiguous areas at Mitwaba
in the Haut-Katanga district of Katanga, a region known to have substantial tin
and tantalum deposits. The area also contains the Pijolait cassiterite mines as
well as significant artisnal gold mining activity. CAMEC will initially
concentrate its exploration activities at Mitwaba on tin, tantalum, gold and
silver.
CAMEC Chairman Phil Edmonds said: "These new exploration permits will help
re-enforce our position in the resource rich regions of the southern D.R.C. We
are excited about the potential for these areas, as they not only have a huge
amount of local artisnal mining activity but are also adjacent to areas with
considerable inferrered copper, cobalt, gold, silver, tantalum and tin
resources.
"Through our existing operations we have established a strong presence in the
region. We've built up both a business network and reputation, which has been
recognized by the mining ministry and contributed significantly to our
successful license applications. The newly implemented mining code is focused on
attracting finance to develop the D.R.C.'s vast natural resources. We have
demonstrated our ability to progress projects, which stands us in good stead
going forward. These are exciting times for the D.R.C. and we are extremely
pleased that we have early stage exposure in this resource rich country."
