Ford Motor said it is expanding its pilot program that offers flexible leases on the electric Mustang Mach-E to drivers on Uber Technologies' ride-sharing platform.

The Dearborn, Mich., auto maker launched the flexible-lease pilot with Uber in 2022, starting in San Diego. The pilot is now expanding to San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The flexible leases allow eligible drivers to lease a Mach-E for between one- and four-month increments, depending on the location. The electric vehicle is delivered to the driver within two weeks, and they can use a Ford app to manage payments and service.

Ford said it will work with dealers in participating cities to purchase a fleet of Mach-Es for use in the program.

Bill Knapp, who leads the program, called Ford Drive, for Ford, said initial feedback from the program was strong.
