Kohl’s donates 150,000 books and toys and
50,000 volunteer hours
Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) will amplify the company’s year-round giving
initiatives during the holiday season by kicking off Giving Tuesday
with a very special delivery of Kohl’s Cares books and toys to
deserving children. Beginning today, more than 70,000 books and
toys will be delivered by Kohl’s associates to children at
charitable organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater
Milwaukee, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ronald
McDonald House, American Cancer Society and children’s hospitals in
Milwaukee, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Salt
Lake City and more. In addition, live on air today Kohl’s announced
a donation of nearly $400,000 in books and toys (approximately
80,000 items) to the Today Toy Drive, spreading joy to those who
need it most, driving Kohl’s total donations to the organization to
nearly $26 million since the partnership began more than a decade
ago.
“Giving back to local communities is a big part of our culture
at Kohl’s and the holiday season gives our teams yet another
heartwarming opportunity to experience the joy of giving to those
in the communities where we live and work,” said Jen Johnson,
Kohl's vice president of corporate communications. “Today, Giving
Tuesday, and throughout the holiday, we are delivering thousands of
Kohl’s Cares books and toys to put smiles on the faces of so many
deserving children all over the country. In addition, our
associates will put their commitment to service on display,
providing nearly 50,000 volunteer hours in November and December
alone.”
Associates Giving Back
Throughout the year and during the holiday season, Kohl’s
associates donate hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours to help
various nonprofit organizations in need of manpower and project
support. This November and December, the busiest time of the year
for associates, associates plan to volunteer nearly 50,000 hours in
hundreds of communities nationwide. With every qualifying event,
volunteer hours are rewarded with $500 grants from Kohl’s to the
benefiting organizations. In addition, Kohl’s associates in
corporate and credit locations, including Milwaukee, New York,
Dallas, San Antonio and Milpitas, will be making spirits bright at
select local charitable organizations with nearly $250,000 in
monetary donations, in addition to in-kind donations, including
toys, warm weather gear and food items.
Giving Back in Our Stores
Located in the front of our stores, Kohl’s features various
family-favorite collections of books and toys throughout the year
as part of the Kohl’s Cares merchandise program. Available at an
incredible value at just $5 each, 100 percent of Kohl’s net profit
benefits charitable initiatives nationwide. In stores now and on
Kohls.com, Kohl’s customers will find Star Wars fan favorites Darth
Vader, Yoda, Chewbacca, Stormtroopers and BB-8 plush toys and
books, available while supplies last.
Nationwide Hospital Partnerships
To reinforce the company’s commitment to children and families,
Kohl’s has provided financial support to hospitals across the
country for more than 16 years. The donations, which come from the
sale of Kohl’s Cares merchandise, fund hospital outreach programs
focused on children’s health initiatives and address the specific
issues in each hospital’s community. To help customers find
benefitting hospital partners in their area, today, Kohl’s is
launching an interactive map showcasing hospital program details by
state. To date, Kohl’s has donated more than $250 million to
support hospitals nationwide.
