Brazilian mobile phone subscriptions rose to 191.47 million in September, up 1.1% from August, according to figures released late Friday by telecommunications regulator Anatel.

Net additions totaled 2.04 million in September compared with 2.4 million net additions in August, Anatel said.

Vivo Participacoes SA (VIVO4.BR) maintained market leadership in September, with a 30.14% share of subscriptions, compared with 30.23% in August.

Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF.MC) recently agreed to buy Portugal Telecom SGPS SA's (PTC.LB) share in Vivo's controlling group.

Claro, the local unit of Mexico's America Movil SA (AMX.MX), was in the No.2 position in September with a 25.47% market share, up slightly from 25.43% in August.

TIM Participacoes SA (TCSL4.BR) was in third place with 24.52%, up from 24.25% the month before. TIM is the local unit of Telecom Italia SpA (TIT.MI).

In fourth-place, mobile-phone operator Oi (TNLP4.BR) registered a share of 19.51% in September, down from 19.74% the previous month.
