HOUSTON, April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- GDF SUEZ Energy
Resources NA announced that it will again donate Renewable Energy
Certificates (RECs) to the Houston Museum of Natural Science in
recognition of Earth Day on April
22. The donation will offset 100 percent of the museum's
electricity consumption during the month of April, further
strengthening the museum's commitment to environmental
responsibility.
"We're honored to continue our relationship with the Houston
Museum of Natural Science in providing visitors with a green
destination in recognition of Earth
Day," said Sam Henry,
President of GDF SUEZ Energy Resources. "Backing our
customers in building sustainable strategies is an important
priority for us and reflects our ongoing efforts to support the
broader development of clean energy."
Each Green-e© Certified REC represents the environmental
attributes or benefits associated with a specific quantity of
energy generated from a renewable source, such as solar or wind.
According to www.eia.gov, GDF SUEZ Energy Resources' donation to
the museum is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 19,052 tree
seedlings grown for 10 years, removing about 743 metric tons of
CO2 from the atmosphere, or displacing the estimated
annual greenhouse gas emissions of 156 passenger
vehicles.
"We value GDF SUEZ Energy Resources as our retail electricity
supplier and are proud of our shared commitment to eco-friendly
energy practices," said Latha
Thomas, Vice President of Marketing & Communication at
the Houston Museum of Natural Science. "Through their continued
support, we are reducing our carbon footprint and setting an
example of responsibility in the community."
As one of the most heavily attended museum venues in
the United States, the Houston
Museum of Natural Science houses the Burke Baker Planetarium,
Wortham Giant Screen Theatre, Cockrell Butterfly Center, and a wide
range of permanent and traveling exhibit areas. It also
maintains two satellite facilities – the George Observatory and the

Green-e© is the nation's leading independent certification and
verification program for renewable energy and greenhouse gas
emission reductions in the retail market.
