Appointment of Sheila M'Mbijjewe as Independent Non-Executive
Director
ASA International Group plc (LSE:
ASAI), one of the world's largest international microfinance
institutions, is today pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Sheila M'Mbijjewe as an Independent
Non-Executive Director.
Upon appointment, Sheila became a
member of the Audit and Risk Committee, the Remuneration Committee,
and the Independent Directors Committee of the Board.
Sheila is a citizen of the Republic
of Kenya, and is both a UK and Kenyan qualified Accountant. She
retired in June 2023 as the first female Deputy Governor of The
Central Bank of Kenya, following the completion of her second and
final four-year term. As well as being a core part of the central
bank leadership team overseeing the Kenyan financial system, Sheila
was actively engaged in promoting pan-African financial stability
and developed a wide knowledge and range of contacts across the
continent. Prior to joining The Central Bank of Kenya, she worked
for Standard Chartered Bank and rose to become Executive Director
and Head of Consumer Banking, East Africa.
The Board believes that Sheila's
unique combination of commercial banking and regulatory experience,
particularly in an African context, will be invaluable in the
coming years as the Group further grows its business across
Africa.
This announcement is made pursuant
to Listing Rule 6.4.6R. In accordance with LR 6.4.8R, the Company
confirms that there is no information to be disclosed in terms of
LR 6.4.8R (1) to LR 6.4.8R (6) inclusive in respect to
Sheila M'Mbijjewe.
