Searchlight Scientific, a wholly owned subsidiary of Searchlight
Solutions Ltd. (PINKSHEETS: SLLN), a technology venture holding
company, unveiled the details of their High Performance Cloud
Computing HPC2 Service. Searchlight Scientifics' sales effort will
be aimed at Fortune 500 companies and various industries including
but not limited to, fire simulation, video rendering, bio-tech,
military and university research.
High-performance computing (HPC) is the use of parallel
processing for running advanced application programs efficiently,
reliably and quickly. The most common users of HPC systems are
scientific researchers, engineers and academic institutions. Some
government agencies, particularly the military, also rely on HPC
for complex applications. High-performance systems often use
custom-made components in addition to so-called commodity
components. As demand for processing power and speed grows, HPC
will likely interest businesses of all sizes, particularly for
transaction processing and data warehouses.
As specialists in the HPC field, Searchlight Scientific
subsidiary Linux Labs has been building HPC systems for over seven
years. Their clients include many Universities and Government
agencies. Linux Labs has perfected the hardware design and software
required to achieve the highest level of efficiency for their
industry. Linux Labs is now building their state-of-the-art HPC
systems and is making them available through a Cloud Computing or
Cluster-On-Demand Model." Linux Labs "Cluster-On-Demand" or High
Performance Cloud Computing (HPC2) is an effective way to obtain
reliable, scalable computing power for network services and
compute-intensive applications. Since clusters have a high initial
cost of ownership, including space, power conditioning, and cooling
equipment, leasing or sharing access to a common cluster is an
attractive solution when demands vary over time. Shared clusters
offer economies of scale and more effective use of resources by
multiplexing.
With Linux Labs' HPC2 service, clients can lease as much CPU
power as they need when they need it. If larger calculations are
needed, but not enough to justify upgrading or buying a cluster,
Linux Labs can provide the right solution. Linux Labs offers
clients the ability to lease an entire dedicated cluster including
setup with client specified software or to lease a virtual cluster.
Linux Labs will help clients choose the right capacity on the
cluster, set up the initial configuration and make sure programs
and solvers run properly on the leased cluster. If more time is
needed, Linux Labs can easily extend the term of the lease. Each
node in a leased cluster is a physical machine standing and running
a Linux Labs controlled data center unless the client has requested
the use of a virtual or petitioned cluster.
