LONDON--Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (RR.LN) said Wednesday it has signed an memorandum of understanding with Chinese reactor vendor CGN to cooperate more closely in the field of civil nuclear power, in China, U.K. and other overseas markets.

Rolls-Royce will explore possible collaboration in areas such as engineering support, provision of components and systems, emergency diesel generators, supply chain management and instrumentation and control technology, it said.

Jason Smith, President Nuclear, Rolls-Royce said: "China represents one of the world's largest civil nuclear markets in which Rolls-Royce has been supplying safety-critical technology and solutions for 20 years."

Rolls-Royce, best known as a maker of jet engines, supplies instrumentation and control technology to more than 70% of China's nuclear reactors and backup generators to almost 40%, the company said.

Shares at 1215 GMT traded up 5 pence, or 0.5%, at GBP10.16, valuing the company at GBP19.17 billion.
