LONDON and NEW YORK, May 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Narrowstep(TM) Inc., the TV on the Internet Company, announces
today its partnership with one of the world's largest telco
companies to provide their proprietary technology, telvOS(TM), to
deliver top of the market TV over IP channels. Telefonica, the
third largest telco in the world, has been trailing two broadband
TV channels, Terra TV Spain (http://www.terra.es/) and Terra TV
Peru (http://www.terra.com.pe/), and early results indicate the
broadband channels have been experiencing massive success. The
broadband TV offerings are the fastest growing features on the
portals with Terra TV Spain attracting more than 300,000 unique
viewers in March this year and click through rates consistently
measuring higher than any other offering on the portal. Terra TV
Peru is also attracting thousands of unique viewers and is
converting 10 percent of its portal visitors to TV viewers. Terra,
the internet arm of Telefonica, operates some of the most popular
websites throughout the U.S., Spain and Latin America targeting
Spanish and Portuguese speaking customers. Terra TV delivers
content across a number of content categories including
entertainment, music, local and worldwide news, business, and
health. David C. McCourt, Chairman and CEO of Narrowstep Inc.,
says, "Working with one of the largest telecom companies in the
world to deliver an internet video offering has been a great
experience for Narrowstep. Their success in this medium validates
our long-term vision for how entertainment will be delivered to
consumers and also demonstrates the flexibility of Narrowstep's
technology to help customers best achieve their business
objectives." Terra attributes its success to not only great
content, but to the technology used to deliver it. After conducting
comprehensive research into broadband TV technology companies, they
opted for Narrowstep based on Narrowstep's expertise and experience
in the TV over IP sector. A Terra spokesman comments, "Narrowstep
is one of the few companies worldwide who truly understands content
delivery on broadband and its technology is second to none. Content
is always key, but not much use if it isn't delivered effectively."
Narrowstep's advanced 2.6 broadband TV player, which is being used
by Terra, offers enhanced features such as a scrolling schedule
with "auto find," extensive playlist features, and advanced search
options, all of which contribute to a state-of-the-art interactive
video experience. The 2.6 system also enables Terra viewers to
choose their own playlists from most popular to most current or
alphabetically, and drives traffic via "email a friend" options.
Narrowstep's telvOS(TM) system provides the backbone for TV over IP
for more than 150 channels worldwide, with content ranging from pop
culture entertainment, tourism and sports to local
broadcasts-allowing customers to expand their market, monetize
their content and build their community by removing the
