zNose(R) Is Able to Detect TCA and TBA in Woods
February 02 2010 - 2:43PM
Marketwired
Electronic Sensor Technology (OTCBB: ESNR) a leading provider of
ultra-fast vapor analyzers, announced today that its zNose®
electronic sensor instrument can detect tribromoanisole TBA and
trichloroanisole TCA.
TBA is an anti-sap-staining chemical used on wood in South
America, primarily from Chile and Brazil. It was the chemical
contaminant cited in the recent consumer product recall as causing
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain in at least 70
consumers, according to the FDA.
TCA is responsible for "cork taint" a contamination of wine that
leaves it with a musty moldy taste, and smelling like wet dog.
The chemicals are suspected of causing nausea, vomiting and
diarrhea.
EST's zNose® electronic sensor instrument is able to capture and
analyze nearly any odor, fragrance or chemical vapor within ten
seconds, and can detect TCA and TBA in woods. Moisture is
responsible for the possible growth of molds and toxic substances
which produce musty smells.
The following is a technical paper which describes the use of
zNose® for detecting TBA and TCA

The zNose® is a very versatile, ultra-fast Gas Chromatograph
(GC). It can perform a full hydrocarbon analysis. This episode
demonstrates one of the many zNose®'s applications. It is currently
being used for environmental, food/beverage, petro-chemical, life
science and Homeland Security applications. For more information,
