TORONTO, June 24, 2015 /CNW/ - Redline Communications (www.rdlcom.com) Group Inc. (TSX: RDL), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless networks for the oil and gas industry, announced today that it has received a contract worth more than $2 million US for a wireless network that will allow real-time monitoring and automation of a nation-wide natural gas distribution system in the Middle East.

The customer, which provides natural gas to power plants and other industries, uses a decades-old wireless system to connect valve and metering stations. Pressured to reduce operating costs, they realized that a wireless network with greater capacity and better performance could increase operational efficiency by allowing real-time visibility and automating routine processes, and that it would accommodate new information technology solutions.

The challenges associated with replacing an aging network are significant. Many of the customer's distribution points and metering stations use older equipment, which is not as "network-friendly" as current products, and crowded wireless spectrum in the area can cause interference and degrade network performance. In addition, any new network must meet extremely rigorous safety and environmental standards.

Redline's experience implementing wireless networks for other oil and gas customers in the same area was a critical part of the decision to choose Redline for this project. Redline will design and implement a new wireless network to connect the customer's distribution points as well as its valve and metering stations through which it distributes gas to various industrial power generation customers.

"We have the technology and the experience to do this upgrade with confidence," states Hani Obeid, Redline's vice-president Middle East. "This customer is extremely concerned with safety and environmental protection and our product design is such that we can meet their exceptionally high safety and environmental standards."

The Redline network will replace the existing UHF-based network. Data from the remote stations will be sent wirelessly by a variety of remote terminal units (RTUs) to multiple SCADA host systems, and in the future, the network will also support the use of corporate business services. In addition to network hardware and software, Redline will also provide a range of technical services, including radio frequency planning, network architecture development, network design and engineering. The network is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2016.

With a proven track record that includes dozens of successful large-scale infrastructure networks, Redline, an ISNetworld™ member company, is not only an expert in wireless mission-critical networks, but also in turnkey wireless network delivery for oil and gas, with purpose-built products and HSE-certified professionals. Redline's end-to-end solutions for oil and gas include planning, engineering and delivery services that combine with ruggedized products to deliver a complete network solution, which can operate effectively throughout the entire life cycle of an oil and gas operation.
