Quebecor Media and the Montreal Impact today announced a 5-year
agreement; among other things, the wide-ranging partnership between
the two Quebec-based organizations covers sponsorship, media,
technology and positioning.
"Quebecor Media is extremely pleased to announce one of its most
important sports partnerships to date," said Pierre Karl Peladeau,
President and CEO of Quebecor and Quebecor Media. Mr. Peladeau also
took the opportunity to pay tribute to Impact President Joey
Saputo. "He and his group are responsible for the rebirth of soccer
in Montreal, for the magnificent new stadium in which the team
plays, and for the fact that the Impact will be joining a
first-rate league next year."
"The entire Impact organization is very excited about the
partnership we have formed with Quebecor Media and its
subsidiaries," said Joey Saputo, President of the Impact. "With
this announcement, we can confirm today that all Impact games will
be broadcast on television in high definition starting 2012. The
relationship with TVA Sports is a logical fit with our drive to
expand our presence in the marketplace. This is definitely the most
important broadcasting partnership in the Impact's history."
TVA Sports becomes official broadcaster
As of 2012, TVA Sports will be the Impact's official broadcaster
and will carry the bulk of the team's regular-season games in Major
League Soccer (MLS). And, as Pierre Dion, President and CEO of TVA
Group noted, TVA Sports will do more than broadcast the games: "We
want to offer rich, varied coverage that gives viewers full
information about the Impact and the game of soccer through
interviews with players, behind-the-scenes reports, and interviews
with the team's owners and with experts."
Technological innovation at the service of soccer and of
Quebecers
Videotron will also be a founding partner in the Impact's
exciting move into MLS. Videotron will help provide a more hi-tech
experience at Saputo Stadium and will apply its creativity by
expanding the contacts between the club and the public. "We have
two goals in mind: giving fans in the stands the best possible
experience during Impact games and helping the team reach its
supporters across Quebec by virtual means," said Robert Depatie,
President and CEO of Videotron. "Just imagine the opportunities
that our multi-platform presence will create on both counts."
