SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Yelp Inc. and LinkedIn
Corp fell sharply Friday weighing down the technology sector.
Yelp (YELP) slid more than 3%, while LinkedIn (LNKD) fell more
than 5% in morning trades. LinkedIn dropped a day after the
professional networking company posted a loss and a disappointing
outlook.
Expedia (EXPE) also saw its stock fall more than 3% after the
online travel site reported a first-quarter loss.
The Nasdaq Composite Index (RIXF) was mostly flat, last trading
up 0.2% to 4,136. The benchmark was on track to end the week with a
gain of more than 1%.
The Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index (MSH) and the Philadelphia
Semiconductor Index (SOX) were each up a fraction.
The chip sector helped boost the sector with Intel Corp.(INTC)
gaining 0.4% and Texas Instruments (TXN) rising 1.5%. Also giving
the group a lift were shares of eBay Inc. (EBAY) which were up more
than 1%.
