TAMPA, Fla., June 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare
Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) (WellCare) has received the
prestigious 2017 "The Civic 50" award from the national non-profit,
Points of Light for being a "Sector Leader" in the health care
industry and engaging in outstanding community service. Every year,
"The Civic 50" program recognizes 50 companies in the U.S. that go
above and beyond to serve the community. This year, WellCare's
recognition was announced by Points of Light during the Conference
on Volunteering and Service in Seattle,
Washington, on June 20.
Points of Light commended WellCare for demonstrating a strong
dedication to investing time, talent and resources to better the
communities where they do business. WellCare's core values include
volunteerism and establishing effective partnerships in order to
improve the quality of life and health outcomes of their members
and the community as a whole. That's why, WellCare created
volunteer and community engagement opportunities for their
associates through the "WellCare Associate Volunteer Efforts"
(WAVE) and "Day of Service" initiatives, which aid vulnerable,
underserved, disabled and senior populations.
In 2016, WellCare's volunteer efforts were coordinated by more
than 200 department team captains, engaging nearly 4,000 associates
and contributing over $250,000 of
volunteer time in the community. It's evident through these efforts
that WellCare has succeeded in building a culture of "giving back"
to those they serve.
"Our members are at the center of everything we do," said
Rhonda Mims, senior vice president,
chief public affairs officer at WellCare. "As a result of that, we
continually strive to help our members lead better and healthier
lives and strengthen the communities in which they live through our
WAVE and Day of Service programs."
"In the fifth year of honoring the most community-minded
companies in the nation, 'The Civic 50' truly highlights the
commitment to community and civic engagement of America's leading
brands," said Jennifer Lawson,
president of networks at Points of Light. "By elevating critical
stakeholder voices from employees, customers and communities into
their mission statements, 'The Civic 50' companies are putting
themselves at the center of change to create more enduring and
sustainable business."
