The May Department Stores Company Names Steven J. Nevill as Senior Vice President, Inventory Management ST. LOUIS, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The May Department Stores Company (NYSE:MAY) today named Steven J. Nevill to the newly created position of senior vice president, inventory management. His appointment is effective Jan. 17, and he will report to John L. Dunham, May's president. In this new position, Mr. Nevill will lead the implementation of the company's new merchandise planning and allocation initiative, which will begin in early 2005. Gene S. Kahn, May's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Steve will work with our department store divisions as they add a planner/allocator structure to their organizations, and he will oversee implementation of new tools and systems to help provide more tightly edited merchandise assortments with improved allocations at the individual-store level." John L. Dunham, May's president, said, "We are extremely fortunate to have Steve join our company. He has exceptional knowledge and experience in the field of inventory management and will bring tremendous expertise to help us implement our new merchandise planning and allocation initiative. In his consulting career, Steve has worked with dozens of major retailers on core merchandising and inventory issues, and we will benefit greatly from his experience and insights." Mr. Nevill, 40, joins May from Kurt Salmon Associates (KSA), the global management consulting firm, where he was national director for growth and profitability services with responsibility for all consulting regarding strategy and merchandising services. Prior to joining KSA, Mr. Nevill was the chief information officer at a start-up specialty retailer and also has held an executive position with a privately held global retailer. A native of Carmel, Ind., Mr. Nevill received both his B.S. degree and M.B.A. degree from Indiana University. He and his wife Theresa currently reside in Atlanta and have two children.
