DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it received
multiple contract awards worth approximately $91 million from the
U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort
Monmouth, New Jersey to manufacture more than 5,000 Tactical Quiet
Generators (TQG) in various sizes.
The generators are in 3-, 5-, 10-, 15- and 100-kilowatt power
output sizes, and will be manufactured by DRS Fermont, in
Bridgeport, Connecticut. The generator sets will be delivered
between March 2009 and March 2011.
The delivery orders are part of multiple existing Indefinite
Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contracts with CECOM, including a $369
million award established in April 2008 for medium-sized generator
sets in the 5-, 10- and 15-kilowatt sizes. CECOM placed these
recent orders on behalf of various Army, Navy and Air Force units
through the Army's Program Executive Office for Command, Control
and Communications Tactical, and its subordinate office of Project
Manager for Mobile Electric Power at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
"DRS is proud to be able to continue to supply our service
personnel with the reliable, clean and quiet tactical power that
they need in order to do the important job that our nation has
asked of them," said Thomas G. Cornwell, President, DRS Sustainment
Systems' business segment.
The awards continue a long-term production program for the Army,
which initially began as a development program in 1997. After the
company's success in producing such a dependable and useful power
source as the TQG, the program moved into full production phase.
Since then, DRS has been the premier provider of these generators
for the military.
To date, DRS has manufactured more than 10,000 10-kilowatt TQGs
for the military, and by the end of the year, will have produced
more than 21,000 3-kilowatt units as well. DRS Fermont has been a
leading designer and manufacturer of rugged, reliable military
generators since World War II, and is the largest supplier of
generators to the U.S. military.
DRS manufactures the TQG in 3-, 5-, 10-, 15-, 100- and
200-kilowatt versions. Whether for training missions or real-world
peacekeeping and combat operations, the company's suite of TQGs is
engineered and manufactured to meet the stringent U.S. military
requirements for an efficient, rugged and portable source of
electrical power. DRS' TQGs provide military forces with a reliable
power source that is lightweight, quiet and can be used in remote
field locations wherever electrical power is needed. DRS'
next-generation 100- and 200-kilowatt TQGs feature an advanced
electronic diagnostics and prognostics package, and a
state-of-the-art digital control panel.
