OSWEGO, N.Y., April 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG) today announced that its Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Scriba, N.Y., has completed a scheduled refueling outage at Unit 1. The refueling outage was completed in 29 days- the shortest duration ever for Nine Mile Point's Unit 1. The previous Unit 1 refueling outage was 38 days. "The success of this outage is a great example of Nine Mile Point's ability to effectively execute a key component of our overall business plan," said Kevin Nietmann, acting vice president of Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. The outage was executed with top-notch safety performance and enhances the reliability of the unit." More than a year of in-depth planning and preparation set the stage for the successful refueling outage. During the outage, employees of Nine Mile Point and other Constellation Energy organizations, as well as specialized contractors, teamed to execute the work with a relentless focus on safety. In addition to normal refueling activities, plant personnel performed several material improvement modifications during the outage including reactor recirculation motor replacements, reactor recirculation pump seal replacements and equipment upgrades in the switchyard. Normal refueling and maintenance activities included fuel handling and in- vessel inspections, as well as upgrades and routine replacements of equipment components including motors, valves, and seals.
