Nikki Haley has resigned from the Boeing board, citing her "philosophical" opposition to any federal government support for the embattled aerospace giant. The company disclosed the move in a regulatory filing.

Boeing this week lodged an effort to win $60 billion in financial support from a mix of public and private sources for the aerospace industry.

Ms. Haley, a former ambassador to the United Nations and governor of South Carolina, joined the Boeing board last April. Her departure creates a potential vacancy on the board, with two other directors due to step down and be replaced at the company's annual meeting next month.
