Alltel Names John Fletcher as General Counsel of New Wireline Company

Alltel (NYSE: AT) announced today that John P. Fletcher has been
named executive vice president and general counsel of the new
company that Alltel's wireline business is forming after its merger
with VALOR Communications Group Inc. Fletcher will assume his new
position Feb. 13. Since 2000, Fletcher has been a partner with
Kutak Rock LLP in Little Rock. His work with the national law firm
has focused on corporate, securities and merger and acquisition
matters. In 2005, Fletcher played a key role in Alltel's
transactions with Western Wireless Corp., Midwest Wireless and the
merger with VALOR. He also has represented other public companies
in a wide range of merger and capital market transactions. "I'm
very pleased that John has agreed to join the new wireline
company," said Jeff Gardner, Alltel's chief financial officer who
will become president and chief executive officer of the new
company. "He will be a great asset to our leadership team."
Fletcher has been at Kutak Rock since 1998. He worked at the Rose
Law Firm of Little Rock from 1993-98. He is a graduate of the
Southern Methodist University Law School, where he served on the
law journal and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He also is an
honors graduate of Duke University. Alltel announced Dec. 9 that it
would spin off its wireline business and merge it with VALOR. The
combination will create a major wireline competitor focused on the
