Alltel (NYSE: AT), owner and operator of the nation's largest
wireless network, has opened the doors to Rod Smart of the Carolina
Panthers so he could demonstrate his 'Love' for the Charlotte
community while supporting the company's new brand advertising
campaign, which includes the '70s hit song "Come And Get Your
Love." Today, in front of Alltel customers and Carolina Panthers
fans in Charlotte, Smart changed his nickname from "He Hate Me" to
"He Love Me." As part of the announcement, Scott Tollett, vice
president of retail services for Alltel, presented Smart with a
jersey bearing his new nickname. "Alltel's approach to treating
customers with fairness and respect is unique to the wireless
industry," said Smart. "As an avid wireless phone user and Alltel
customer, I'm happy to help spread the love." Smart received
national exposure in 2001 as a member of the Las Vegas Outlaws of
the Xtreme Football League (XFL), when he had the phrase "He Hate
Me" stitched on the back of his jerseys. The "He Hate Me" moniker
was a written response to everyone who disrespected Smart on his
journey to professional football. Smart, 28, is entering his fifth
season as a member of the Panthers. "Alltel's brand campaign
demonstrates that our company is a customer ally that listens
carefully to what our customers want and gives them what they
need," said Frank O'Mara, executive vice president of marketing for
Alltel. "We welcome Rod 'He Love Me' Smart to our family and
appreciate his help in spreading the word about Alltel's
customer-centric approach to providing wireless service." Alltel is
a customer-focused communications company with more than 15 million
customers in 36 states and nearly $10 billion in annual revenues.
