Motorola's Wireless Broadband CDMA 1X EV-DO Solution to Power
ALLTEL's Axcess Broadband Service SCHAUMBURG, Ill., July 26
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola Inc.'s (NYSE:MOT) CDMA 1xEV-DO
wireless broadband solution is scheduled to be deployed by ALLTEL
Inc. (NYSE:AT) later this year as it continues rollout of its
Axcess Broadband service. "Axcess Broadband gives our customers
mobile access to the Internet with speeds that rival wired
broadband connections, allowing them to wirelessly and quickly
download large, graphic-rich files and streaming video onto their
laptops when connected to our network in select markets," said
Chris Smith, executive vice president of Network Services, ALLTEL.
"ALLTEL's deployment of Axcess Broadband service using
Motorola-supplied CDMA infrastructure is an important endorsement
of Motorola's wireless broadband technology that allows operators
to offer new, high speed services with upgrades to their existing
infrastructure," said Fred Wright, senior vice president, Motorola
Networks. ALLTEL's Axcess Broadband service lets users access the
Internet with bursts up to 2.4 Mbps and average speeds of 300 to
500 Kbps. ALLTEL is deploying the service using plug-in EV-DO
carrier channel cards that are installed into existing Motorola
CDMA 1X cell sites where broadband data service is to be offered.
The network upgrade is coupled with installation of incremental
Internet Protocol (IP) radio access call processing equipment in
the mobility switching center. CDMA 1xEV-DO is the next step in
CDMA data evolution, helping to reduce the cost of delivering data
while increasing the typical data throughput speed for subscribers
by up to 10X compared to the current CDMA 1X data solution and
enabling new interactive software applications to run more
efficiently at much faster speeds. Motorola's 1xEV-DO solution is
being used by operators in North America, Latin America, and Asia
Pacific. About ALLTEL ALLTEL is a customer-focused communications
company with more than 13 million customers in 27 states and $8
