Dow Jones News
The main Niger Delta militant movement confirmed Monday that it
traded shots with the Nigerian army in the vicinity of an Eni SpA
(E) oil terminal over the weekend but it denied it was a planned
attack.
"It was not a planned attack but an exchange of fire between our
boys and the army," a spokesman for the Movement for the
Emancipation of the Niger Delta, or MEND, said Monday in an email
to Dow Jones Newswires.
A Nigerian army spokesman said Sunday that an attack on soldiers
guarding the Twon Brass terminal, operated by Agip SpA, a unit of
Eni, had been foiled.
