Bally Gaming and Systems Announces Opening of Offshore Development Center in Chennai, India
September 14 2005 - 1:09PM
PR Newswire (US)
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Bally Gaming and
Systems, a business unit of Alliance Gaming Corp. (NYSE:AGI),
announced today plans to expand its engineering operations by
opening a wholly owned offshore development center in India to
improve the speed and quality of product enhancement deliverables
and customer service levels. The new Bally development center will
be located in Chennai, a growing technology hub of India. Chennai
has emerged as a popular offshore choice as Bangalore, India's
"silicon plateau," has become saturated in terms of infrastructure
and availability of resources. The new center is scheduled to open
in October 2005 and grow to approximately 50 people within the
first few months of operation. This new offshore team is expected
to augment end-to-end design and development initiatives currently
taking place in Bally's U.S.- and European-based development
centers. "We are a growing company with a clear mandate to increase
revenue while efficiently managing the cost of our operations. We
believe that expanding offshore is a natural way to achieve this
objective," said Ramesh Srinivasan, Executive Vice President of
Bally Systems. "This is not a replacement strategy, and we have no
plans to move our development base to India. Our India operations
will support and assist our other product development centers
currently operating in the U.S., France and UK. "By productively
utilizing the excellent technical talent available in India, we
hope to improve the quality and functionality of our products at a
faster rate than otherwise possible, thereby increasing our service
levels to customers. Bally is a technology company and expanding
our software engineering base in a cost-effective manner will give
us a significant competitive advantage," Srinivasan said. The
expansion initiative will be spearheaded by Srinivasan Raghavan,
who recently joined Bally Systems as the Vice President and
Managing Director of the India center. Raghavan is an offshore
veteran with more than 15 years of experience working with the
Indian operations of American companies. His last role involved
working with Richard Haddrill, CEO of Alliance Gaming, and Ramesh
Srinivasan to establish the offshore development center of a
leading software company in the supply chain industry, and growing
it to more than 400 people in less than three years. "The Indian
offshore industry has matured over the years especially in terms of
the seamless flow of high-quality development work between the
United States, Europe and India," Raghavan said. "I am very excited
to join Bally and drive its offshore initiative. I am confident
that the India center will add critical value to Bally's business
and prove to be a very significant strategic advantage." In
addition to making an immediate impact, during the coming years the
India center is expected to grow to become a crucial backbone in
providing critical technical support to Bally's international
expansion plans in Macau and other countries. Las Vegas-based Bally
