Amazon.com Inc.'s subsidiary Amazon Web Services and Swiss engineering company ABB Ltd. have agreed to develop a cloud-based platform for real-time fleet management of electric vehicles.

ABB said Monday that the new platform should be rolled out in the second half of the year, with features including charge planning and real-time monitoring, details on vehicle health and servicing and route optimization.

"This collaboration between AWS and ABB will combine our companies' deep expertise in the automotive, logistics and electrification spaces with leadership in the cloud to deliver a hardware-agnostic, intelligent electric fleet management solution," AWS's Director of Professional Services for Automotive Jon Allen said.
