Tumbleweed(R) Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:TMWD), a leading provider of secure email, file transfer, and identity validation solutions, today announced it has secured several significant Federal contract wins in the first half of 2005, including awards and renewals from such agencies as the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) as well as leading organizations within the Intelligence Community. These awards reflect Tumbleweed's leadership as a secure Internet communications solutions provider to major segments of the Federal civilian, defense, and intelligence communities. Defense and Intelligence Communities Rolling With Tumbleweed for Enterprise-Wide PKI Validation and E-Mail Security Solutions In June, the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems (SPAWAR) Command awarded Tumbleweed a follow on order for the Tumbleweed Validation Authority(TM), the most widely deployed public key infrastructure (PKI) validation solution in the US Department of Defense (DoD). The procurement is part of a three year phased rollout of Validation Authority to provide enterprise-wide digital certificate validation throughout the entire fleet. Based on the open standard Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP, RFC 2560), Validation Authority verifies the status of digital certificates in real time, ensuring that revoked credentials cannot be used for secure email, smart card login, web access, wireless, VPN, or other electronic transactions. In January, three of the Navy's largest shipyards awarded Tumbleweed contracts for the procurement of Tumbleweed MailGate Email Firewall(TM), Tumbleweed's award-winning, comprehensive solution for inbound and outbound email security. MailGate Email Firewall combines state-of-the-art encryption, authentication, tracking and intelligent routing capabilities. The shipyards, located in Norfolk, VA, Portsmouth, NH, and Bremerton, WA, purchased software licenses for deployment to a minimum of 15,000 users overall. The U.S. Air Force continued to roll out Tumbleweed Validation Authority for service-wide wide deployment to more than 200,000 users. In June, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) completed the initial procurement of Validation Authority for deployment to more than 1.3 million DoD users worldwide. Tumbleweed also received contract awards recently from a major Intelligence Community organization for the procurement of Validation Authority. The Validation Authority award will represent the first agency-wide deployment of the solution within the Intelligence sector, and together with existing rollouts underway indicate this agency's growing preference for Tumbleweed's PKI validation technology. This award expands on earlier success within the Intelligence community where the MailGate Email Firewall was previously licensed. Federal Civilian Agencies Turning to Tumbleweed for File Transfer Security and PKI Validation Solutions In May, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) completed the deployment of Tumbleweed SecureTransport(TM) to enable the secure enterprise-wide exchange of valuable and sensitive patent information over the Internet. The agency deployed the solution in recognition of the dangers involved with running the data to tape and shipping it to headquarters by truck, as demonstrated recently with major financial corporations losing computer tapes while in transit. Facing similar concerns, the DOI's National Business Center and the U.S. Department of the Treasury's (Treasury's) Bureau of Public Debt recently awarded contracts to Tumbleweed for the procurement of SecureTransport. Among other purposes, these agencies plan to use SecureTransport for secure file interaction with Pay.Gov, a government-wide transaction portal sponsored by Treasury's Financial Management Service (FMS). Pay.Gov offers a suite of on-line electronic financial services that Federal agencies can use to meet their responsibilities toward the public. "The results to date for 2005 reflect Tumbleweed's continued commitment to technical innovation and outstanding customer service in the Federal market," said Ann Smith, Tumbleweed's Vice President, Federal Sales. "We are continuing to deepen relationships in our existing customer base while executing on our goal of expanding penetration into new customer areas. Going forward, we plan to leverage our track record of success across all segments of the Federal market and strengthen our leadership position in delivering secure communications solutions that protect government communications infrastructure from existing threats and emerging vulnerabilities."
