Larscom Enables Cost-Effective Delivery of Ethernet Services Over
Existing Copper Infrastructure Larscom's New Orion 4510 Provides
Economical Delivery of Ethernet Services Across DS-3 Facilities For
Carriers and Enterprise NEWARK, Calif., June 21
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Responding to the increasing demand for
Ethernet Services, Larscom (NASDAQ:LARS) today announced that it
has added another cost-effective Ethernet delivery solution to its
product portfolio. The Orion 4510 Ethernet over DS-3 unit makes it
simple and economical for carriers and enterprises to provide
broadband access, deliver high-speed Ethernet services, and extend
the LAN services within the enterprise, including the transport of
Ethernet services to remote locations. The Orion 4510 is optimized
to support Fast (100 Base-T) Ethernet. Depending on the
application, it maps Ethernet frames into a DS-3 bit stream or maps
DS-3 to Ethernet to enable Ethernet transport across the existing
infrastructure. It includes Larscom's comprehensive, easy-to-use
installation and management facilities. Traffic flow control
ensures Ethernet service quality. The compact Orion 4510 form
factor is designed to minimize space requirements and operating
expenses for deployment at the customer premises. "Many of our
customers are looking for economical ways to deliver and transport
Ethernet services across their existing infrastructure," said
Gurdip Jande, vice president of marketing at Larscom. "Now Larscom
offers a new price point for Ethernet over DS-3 and combines it
with our hallmark ease of use, to provide a complete solution that
integrates easily into any carrier or enterprise DS-3 network." The
new Orion 4510 is the next step in Larscom's Ethernet solutions
strategy, which also includes the Orion 7400 Ethernet Multi-Service
Access Platform for the delivery of Ethernet over SONET. The Orion
4510 is available today. About Larscom Larscom enables high-speed
access by providing cost-effective, highly reliable
(carrier-class), and easy-to-use network access equipment. In June
