India Bus Companies Choose IMPCO CERRITOS, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IMPCO Technologies Inc., (NASDAQ:IMCO). India's cities are among the worlds most polluted. Buses using diesel fuel are among the major polluters. The government of India recognized the need to eliminate diesel pollution to improve the health of its citizens and has passed laws requiring all new buses and light commercial vehicles in the state of Delhi be fueled by natural gas and those buses in Mumbai older than eight years be converted to run on natural gas. As an added benefit to reducing air pollution, India also recognized the advantage of using their own natural gas reserves rather than importing diesel fuels to improve their balance of payments and has priced natural gas at $1.10 per gallon versus $2.07 per gallon for diesel fuel to provide an economic incentive to the conversion to natural gas. There are over 50,000 transit buses in the ten major cities of India. Thus far, New Delhi and Mumbai are leading the way in the conversion to natural gas. In New Delhi, over 8,000 buses fueled with natural gas use IMPCO products. In Mumbai 100 buses have thus far been introduced by the state owned transit company using IMPCO products. The eight remaining cities are in the process of initiating conversion.
